Thirty Day Challenge
Today I start the Thirty Day Challenge. No it’s nothing to do with having Special K for breakfast – it’s all about getting your online business up and running. Looking forward to it and hopefully in 30 days time I’ll know a lot more about this interweb thingy!

Some beginner’s photo tips
The difference between a good photo and an absolutely great photo is usually just a few seconds thought before taking the shot. As we get more familiar with the all the technology our digital camera has to offer, we can learn how to improve our photos by simply pausing before we take the photo and considering a few things that will make our snapshot into a winning shot. What follows, are some things you might want to consider when you’re taking your next photos.
1. Fill the Frame
You can fill the frame of your shot by either moving closer to your subject or using your camera’s optical zoom function. By doing this you will avoid any unnecessary distractions in your photo and your subject will stand out.
2. Change your view
A landscape shot taken in the vertical (portrait) aspect can be very striking and gives a different perspective than usual. Because you can delete and retake your digital photos, shoot your subject from many different angles until you get the shot your happiest with.
3. Position of Subject
Whereabouts you place your subject in the frame, will determine how interesting the picture is. Try to avoid placing your subject directly in the centre of your frame and instead place your subject off to one side of the frame.
4. Lead the Eye
Using a foreground subject to lead the eye to the main subject will give a strong sense of depth to your photo. Use overhanging branches when framing a lake or include an interesting pathway to lead your viewer through the picture.
5. The Right Light
Changing the way we use light within our pictures will dramatically change the feel of them. Our photographs can look dramatically different depending on whether or not they were taken at Daybreak, Midday or Sunset. Don’t be afraid to get up early to catch that great shot!
7. Use color/ black and white/ sepia
Add interest and variation to your photos by changing them to black and white or sepia. You can either do this through your camera, on your PC using an editing program or in your local photo lab.

Jonquil Festival
I’m thrilled to be taking part in the Smyrna Spring Jonquil Festival, this weekend, as part of the SABA group. This newly formed organization is all about promoting the excellent artists we have here in Smyrna and I’m very excited to be a part of it. I have no idea what happens at these events, but no doubt it will be a fun day out and hopefully some nice exposure for both SABA and CameraShy!
So if your looking for some camera tips and tricks, come on over to the SABA booth for a complimentary lesson from me!

First Day of Summer….
Friday felt like the first day of summer to me. We we’re outside the house and just felt really inspired to take some pictures. So off we went into the woods at the back of our house and this was the result. I’m really pleased with this shot and my husband Loves it so this is dedicated to Sam!

A little background info…
So just a little background about who I am and where I came from…. I’ve been involved in the photographic industry now for 18 years – that makes me feel ancient, but I did start when I was 15! My dad started a One Hour Photo lab in Monaghan, Ireland (my home town) and even at that young age I was heavily involved of all aspects of the business. Several years later, after university, a short stint in the world of finance (yuck) and a one year trip around the world, I found myself drawn back home to take on more of a leadership role in running the family business. This was in 2000 when the digital age of photography was just about to explode! So a bit of re-branding, a lot of investment and a fair amount of sweat and toil later Diamond Imaging was born! We became known for being the experts in all things Digital Photography related in the Monaghan region and I began teaching classes to beginners on “How to use your Digital Camera“
Fast forward a few years and the shop was going from strength to strength. One day, a handsome young American comes in looking for some help with his digital camera and my life took another turn. After much too-ing and fro-ing and lots of long distance phone calls, I end up marrying this cutie and that’s what brings me here to Smyrna, Georgia. Diamond Imaging still goes from strength to strength thanks primarily to my Dad helped out by my Mum and all the staff there. I’m still involved in the business but obviously not as hands on as I was. If your ever near Monaghan – check it out and tell them I sent you and you’ll be sure of extra special treatment!
So CameraShy is a natural progression for me. I’m running my own business, doing what I love which is teaching people and it’s all about my passion – photography! In this blog I intend to post tips, and techniques, links to interesting photo articles and updates on my upcoming classes. If you are interested in taking a class please email me for more information!
